South Sudan’s President showed the exit door to the Environment and Road Ministers while two were on official duties outside the Country
Juba, 19th November 2025, South Sudan President Salva Kiir has on Month issued series of presidential orders removing and appointing government officials in what South Sudanese described as Kiir show of powers with informal slogan of “Kiir Gives and Kiir takes, may we congratulate those who are appointed” the president has so far issued more than 450 presidential orders as of November 17th 2025 appointing and dismissing officials according to the national broadcaster South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation [SSBC]
Among the four national ministers relieved that day include the national Minister of Environment Josephine Napwon Cosmas, who was leading a government delegation in Brazil for the COP30 conference. The Minister of Road and Bridges, Mr. Simon Mijok Mijak, was also relieved while in Ethiopia for a partnership project on road constructionthe being under taken by the two East African nations. Both were replaced. The son of the founder leader of the ruling party, Mabior Garang De-mabior was appointed environmental minister and former ruling party secretary general, Mr. Peter Lam Both, was appointed minister of Road and Bridges. It’s not immediately clear what happened to the road project in Ethiopia. many government critics blame the president for abrupt decisions, which they believe tarnished South Sudan’s image and violated the provisions of the fragile 2018 peace deal.
